Before we jump to the gift suggestions, I should mention that the following tools, coupled with effective processes, currently help one of the world’s biggest procrastinator (me) accomplish a lot of stuff every week.... Section one: health & fitness
Natural products to improve sleep
In order to feel fresh and productive, sleep is a must. Sure, it may sound cool to brag about how little we sleep because we’re so busy, but it’s actually counterproductive and not sustainable.
The first step for a regenerative sleep is to fall asleep before 23h00. Sometimes, that’s easier said than done, especially if your brain won’t slow down or if you feel anxious. When this happens, try our CEO’s favorite natural sleep cocktail:
There’s a popular saying in business that states: “What gets measured gets improved.” Until recently, this saying wasn’t really used when referring to your sleep, but Oura changed that by building a ring that monitors your sleep quality, your sleep stages (REM, DEEP, LIGHT), and your sleep trends.
Who knew that being data-driven could one day make you sleep better and thus, be more productive?
Productivity is measured by the total output of your efforts. Of course, you can always work harder, but the biggest leverage is working smarter. Omega-3s help you do that by improving your memory and your mood (they also improve much more).
Ready to contribute to the productivity of your loved ones? One, two...omega-3!
A bulletproof coffee is a quite simple recipe made with only three ingredients, yet so full of benefits. I’m no expert in chemistry, so let’s just highlight that coffee raises your awareness, medium-chain triglycerides like Brain Octane Oil have important fat-burning effects and grass-fed butter is jam-packed with healthy fats and fat-soluble vitamins. In addition, the latter slows the absorption of caffeine and tastes like heaven in your coffee.
You can make a great bulletproof coffee with many brands of coffee, MCT oil and grass-fed butter. However, searching and comparing online takes a lot of time, so if you can’t afford to waste any, just go with the brand that started the movement: Bulletproof
Living a healthy lifestyle sometimes feel like an insurmountable challenge, even though it’s only a matter of changing small daily habits over a long period of time. Running a business is often a marathon, rarely a sprint, so entrepreneurs’ body have to be ready to go the distance and maintain the pace on the long run.
If you can afford to offer a private trainer and a nutritionist as a gift, go for it. If you can’t, MyFitnessPal provides powerful tools that make it easier for everyone to track their meals and physical activity. Remember, what gets measured gets improved!
Not so long ago, a wise man said: “If you can afford to offer a private trainer and a nutritionist as a gift, go for it.”
Well, Orange Theory Fitness offers the same level of boundary-pushing, progress-tracking and accountability as a private trainer at a regular gym, but since the group vibe is so nicely orchestrated, you have way more fun. They offer a free trial, so go see for yourself...and don’t forget to buy a second membership, because the gift wasn’t initially meant for yourself!
Today more than ever, we’re conditioned to sit in pretty much any situation, whether we’re in the car, at work in front of our computers, in public transport, at the restaurant, or in front of our TV.
However, the human body is not conceived for sitting all day, it’s built to move.
To solve that problem, a great sit-stand desk is your best option. I recommend our bestseller, The Sway desk. It’s stable, sturdy, made of premium solid wood and incredibly good-looking.
Section two: music & books
I don’t know about you, but there is always a special moment during the day when I feel super focused and productive. It’s kind of like if I was in a time-stopping bubble and nothing other than my current project mattered.
Those “bubbles” don’t happen very often, but probabilities radically increase when no external noise can be heard. That’s why noise cancelling headphones can have a huge impact on your level of productivity. There are a lot of great models, but Beats Studio3 Wireless are my team’s favorite.
Music is really great throughout the work day; it can uplift your mood in the morning, help you focus in the afternoon and motivate you to kick ass after dinner.
The most effective way to listen to music is to stop thinking about it while you work -- aka curated playlists – and, most importantly, not be interrupted by ads. That’s why the paid version of Spotify is a must!
BONUS: Try the “Calm Electro” playlist by esterhasz, which includes almost 64 hours of non-stop instrumental electro for unparalleled focus.
Any gift guide for entrepreneurs is not complete without this gem of a book from David Allen, a mastermind in the productivity category. The book is short and full of concrete actions that really work. Here’s a quote that summarizes the book pretty well:
“If you don't pay appropriate attention to what has your attention, it will take more of your attention than it deserves.”
― David Allen
“Efficiency is doing things right. Effectiveness is doing the right things.”
Peter Drucker really nailed it with this quote. When people think of being more productive, the first thing that comes to their mind is how to get more things done.
This is actually counter-productive as we all tend to be overwhelmed by meaningless tasks that don’t actually move the needle forward. It’s very easy to be busy, but it doesn’t mean that we’re actually providing any value.
Known as the father of management, Peter Drucker emphasizes that we take on less projects and that we focus on getting the right ones done… Like buying this book as a Christmas gift!
Section three: productivity apps
Meistertask is a project/task management tool that uses a Kanban approach. There are a lot of tools like this one available on the internet, but after trying most of them, this one was my favorite for the following reasons:
- A lot of useful features
- The design is super intuitive
- It integrates with lots of popular tools (Gmail, Slack, Zendesk, etc.)
Zapier connects the apps you use every day to automate your work and be more productive. Basically, all you have to do is define criteria that will automatically trigger actions such as creating an event in Google Calendar from a new Task that was created in Meistertask.
The automation recipes are called “zaps” and some of them are free. However, most of the useful ones are not. That’s why it makes a super useful gift!
The clock is ticking!
This is a blog post about productivity and, ironically, Christmas is now roughly 5 minutes closer than before you started reading it. Don’t waste another minute and start shopping for the entrepreneur in your life!
